Wendy Heineman Ewoldt was a starting guard (as a sophomore) on the 1978 Girls Basketball Team that placed 3rd in State (still at a time when there were no "classes" and the Vikettes competed against schools of all sizes). That team recorded the best record in school history (at that time -- not sure if that still stands) with a 27-3 record. Wendy received All-conference recognition in 1978, 1979 & 1980. They were also WaMaC Champions all three years. Wendy also participated in Cross Country, Track and Softball.
Wendy later became known as the Library Lady at Dysart-Geneseo schools. She and her husband also farm near Dysart. She retired from her position with the library last year to so she can babysit her granddaughter, Hudsyn Faye.
Wendy is one of four 2014 inductees into the Viking-Vikette Hall of Fame who will be honored during Friday's Homecoming activities.
Wendy looked up her team's basketball records from the old yearbooks. In her three years as a player, the team was 27-3, 19-6 and 22-1, for an overall record of 68-10.
"Making it to and getting 3rd place at the state tournament in 1978 has to be my greatest memory," says Wendy. "This would have never been possible without my teammates, coaches, parents and the whole community. I would especially like to thank my coaches from 7th grade track all the way through high school for their support and dedication to my teammates and me. I have wonderful memories of my high school years at Vinton."
