The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings enter Homecoming Week "at the top of the district," Coach Jim Womochil told his football players after their 58-26 win at Oelwein Friday night.
The Vikings gained 440 yards on the ground and another 34 through their passing game, scoring all seven touchdowns on running plays.
Sophomore Nick Hyland led the Vikes with 220 yards and scored two touchdowns. Senior Tanner Spies scored three touchdowns. Colton Sojka added 6 PAT kicks.
Junior Warren Rouse led the defense with 10 tackles. Jordan Womochil recovered a fumble and broke up some Husky pass attempts.

The Vikings (2-1 and 1-0 in Class 3A District 5 contests) host Western Dubuque next Friday.
