V-S qualifies seven events to State track meet
By SAGE HOLMESINDEPENDENCE – The Vinton-Shellsburg Viking and Vikette varsity track and field teams took to Lyle Leinbaugh Field in Independence Thursday for the 2021 State Qualifying Meet.Vikette senior Kayla Griffith won the girls' high jump with a leap of 5-1, and sophomore discus thrower Brylee Bruce took gold with a throw of 124-2. In addition, junior shot putter Abby Bartz threw 37'2", good enough for a wild card berth in Des Moines.
Stock Cars vie for $1,250 winner’s share May 23 at Benton County
A payday of all-star proportions will be on the line Sunday night at Benton County Speedway.The quarter-mile Bullring will offer up $1,250 to the feature winner of the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars presented by Albert Auto in an event that will also serve as a qualifier for the inaugural IMCA Stock Car All-Star Invitational at this year’s IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s.
Dalles Mitchell Jacobus to be at the Bullring Lil Racer Car Club on Sunday
Next Sunday night, May 23rd, the Bullring Lil Racer Car Club is proud to announce that former Iowa Hawkeye defensive lineman and current singer/songwriter DALLES MITCHELL JACOBUS of Palo, will be our guest in the clubhouse at the Benton County Speedway. He will be happy to share autographs from 5:45 to 7:45! He will also be bringing his guitar along, in hopes that he gets to strum a few notes on it for the fans. Gunnar Moen and Damon Swenson scored one goal each and that was all she wrote on a perfect season for the Vikings.Coach Kyle McAbee's squad finished the regular season the way it started; dominating. The only goal of the match came on a long shot by the Spartans and that was the difference of the match.The Vikettes travel to Van Horne Tuesday to take on Benton Community, then Friday head to West Liberty to face the Comets.
V-S Boys Soccer Team shares Success on the Field with area Lions Club
Vinton-Shellsburg boys soccer team shared their accomplishments with the Vinton Lions Club on Wednesday, May 12th at the noon meeting.The 36 players on the Vinton-Shellsburg boys soccer team have accomplished something that not many VS teams in any sport have achieved, they are undefeated Wamac Champions! They are currently 13-0 and ranked 2nd in the state in class 2-A. Live Healthy Track Meet Results
Children Ages 7 - 14 year olds competed in the annual "Live Healthy" track meet. The Live Healthy Iowa Kids Track Championships event was founded in 2015 to continue on the tradition of the Hershey® Track and Field Games in Iowa. Like its predecessor, the Live Healthy Iowa Kids Track Championships this was a free, statewide event that required no special equipment to participate. Lil Racer Car Club Recap 5/09/21
The Lil Racer Car Club at the Benton County Speedway “The Bullring” last night signed in 94 Lil Racers for our “Mother’s Day Basket Giveaway” at the track. Kids were given tickets to drop in buckets directly in front of baskets donated by 14 wonderful vendors. The kids got a chance to look over and decide which basket they most likely would like to have a chance to win.
