The high school softball season gets a little extension for one Vikette and her coach next week. Vinton-Shellsburg senior second baseman Brittany Robertson will be playing Monday in the Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association All-Star Games at Waukee High School.

Vinton-Shellburg baseball players Taylor Leyden (pitcher), Nolan Edwards (infielder) and Gunner Tranel (outfielder) were named to the WaMaC West First Team All-Conference team, after voting by the conference coaches.

  Well, summer sports season is over, fall sports it just around the corner, and now we can devote our full attention to the Major League pennant races, and there are some good ones right now.

Center Point-Urbana defeated Union16-5, in a 5-inning game in District baseball action Friday night in Vinton. The Stormin' Pointers will play Independence Monday, again in Vinton.

The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings had a heart-breaking end to their season Friday at Vinton, losing 4-3 to the Independence Mustangs.  The Mustangs, the home team for the game held in Vinton, rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the bottom of the seventh to win 4-3.

  These boys went undefeated on all their tourney games Sunday.   The last game was called early because of rain.  The Vinton boys we were just up to bat in the 4th inning and the rain wasn't letting up.

The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings swept Waverly-Shell Rock, 4-2, and 9-2, Tuesday night in Vinton.  Kody Seaton, Bryce Burroughs and Taylor Leyden pitched in Game 1.
