The Vinton Parks & Recreation will soon be concluding its enrollment period for any teams that are wanting to sign up for our adult summer softball league. VPRD encourages any interested adults to submit their registration form by Saturday of this week. The only thing needed from any teams registering at this point is their registration form and $30 deposit.

Benton County Speedway: Miedke among April 24 winners in Vinton
Steve Miedke of Newhall won the Sport Compact feature at the Benton County Speedway Sunday, returning to victory lane for the first time since winning during the Hogam Memorial event three years ago.
Other winners were:

Hobby Stock: Scott Pippert (third win in a row)
Sports Mod Girls soccer: Vikettes lose at home to CCA
Two weeks after earning the first soccer win in school history, the Vinton-Shellsburg girls are still looking for their second victory. The girls lost to Clear Creek-Amana, 7-0, at home, Monday evening.
The Vikettes are a young team, with only two seniors, Caitlin Loney and foreign exchange student Rosali Scharnert. Randall leads Vikette golfers in win at Jesup
The Vinton-Shellsburg girls golf team went to Jesup Monday, where they defeated Jesup by a score of 208-247. Coach Janet Woodhouse submitted this summary:

Red Cedar Shooters begin season at Xavier Invitational
The Vinton-Shellsburg Red Cedar Shooters trap shooting team participated in a double invitational on Saturday in Cedar Rapids. The team competed with several other Iowa schoos of all sizes in an invitational at the Otter Creek facility northwest of Cedar Rapids.

Special Olympians prepare for April 16 track event at Coe
Benton County Special Olympians will lead the Parade of Champions for the track competition event on April 16, at Coe College in Cedar Rapids.
And when they recite the Special Olympics Oath, a Vinton-Shellsburg participant, Hunter Burg, will lead them. The Vinton-Shellsburg girls track team members are also making plans to help (and cheer) for the event.
