Benton County Speedway to honor Iowa's Soldiers

Due to the weather last Sunday, THIS Sunday, September 25, the Benton County Speedway will  Salute Iowa's Bravest. Men and women returing from Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan will be special guests during season championship night.

Metro League VS football players recognized

     At fourth, fifth and sixth grade, their coaches and fathers are teaching them the fundamentals of football and even some of the same formations and plays they may learn as high school players who wear the black and gold of Vinton-Shellsburg.

The perfect season for college football fans from our state

Vikings lose at home, 41-28, to W. Dubuque

       Nolan Edwards stood with the other Viking captains, wearing his jersey and his jeans, as the pre-game coin toss determined who would kick off first.

     A week after losing their leading scorer for at least the rest of the regular season with a broken collarbone in the 58-6 loss at Maquoketa, the Vinton-Shellsburg football team hopes to return to its winning ways tonight.

VSMS 8th grade football season begins

     The Vinton-Shellsburg 8th grade football team traveled to Independence to begin its football season. A team lost 28 - 18, but the B team won 24 - 0.

Vikettes lose to Waterloo Columbus on volleyball court

VSMS girls lead the pack at S. Tama Cross Country meet

     The Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School girls ruled the field at the S.Tama Cross Country meet on Monday, Sept. 12. Lily Horst won the race, and the Vikettes had five of the top eight finishes.
