The Alumni Football game between the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings and the Center Point-Urbana Stormin Pointers will be played Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 7 p.m. at the Vinton High School Football Field.  All Viking alumni are encouraged to sign up. The Vinton-Shellsburg 6th Grade Basketball team recently placed first at the Blairstown Community Foundation Youth Basketball Tournament.  Team members include Front Row (L-R)  Matthew Andreesen, Blake Bohnsack, Mason Stainbrook, Tanner Cummings -- Back Row (L-R) Jace Kelchen, Justin Bartz, Cole Overton, Jimmy Becker.  Coaches are Todd Bohnsack and Stu Overton.

The Vinton-Shellsburg boys basketball team, at 16-4, has clinched the WaMaC West division title, and plays its final game of the regular season at home tonight. The Vikings host DeWitt Central.  The District tournament action begins Monday, when the Vikings host Independence at 7 p.m.  The Vikings, who are in the District 7 bracket of class 3A, are two wins away from competing at the McLeod Center, where the University of Northern Iowa basketball teams play.

  We had our annual Special Populations bowling outing on Friday, February 3rd. Every participant enjoyed having the opportunity to bowl two games at Berry's Lanes before heading out to Pizza Ranch for lunch immediately afterwards.    Pictured above are the winners for the 5 awards given out.

  Saturday in Marshalltown the Vikings wrapped up there swim season with a strong showing at the district meet.  Facing perennial powerhouse Cedar Falls as well as strong squads from host Marshalltown, Linn-Mar, Waterloo East and West and Ottumwa, the young Vikings grabbed a sixth place finish ahead of Waterloo East and just behind Ottumwa.

Vinton-Shellsburg wrestlers Michael Neal (126#) and Nathan Merchant (132#) oth placed 2nd at Sectionals this past weekend.  They will advance to Districts at Oelwein this Saturday. 

Grant Sagan scored 22 points for Vinton-Shellsburg Friday evening, as the Vikings defeated Clear Creek-Amana, 69-46. Max Griffifth scored 19, including five 3-point shots. The Vikings built an early 22-6 first quarter lead. Max Kearns aided the Viking offense with eight points and 13 assists. Sagan led the Vikes in rebounds with 11. See complete stats HERE.

  Summer is still a ways away and tailgating season is even further in the distance, but that doesn't mean you still can't enjoy one of your favorite summertime activities! The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department is offering a new Adult Bags League, also known as Baggo, for anyone 18 years and older that are interested in getting a team together.

8th grade boys were champions of their own tournament on Saturday.  They are coached by Todd Bohnsack and Roger Roseberry.  Players include: Blake Patterson, Brian Stainbrook, Kyle Jorgensen, Jon Betterton, Grant Noren, Tyler Rippel, Sean Noeller, Austin Bohnsack and Tyler Stueck.
