Amputee inspires other VS Cheerleaders

A young girl walked up to Kay Mull, looked at her prosthetic limb, and asked, “How did you change your leg?” Kay, a freshman cheerleader at Vinton-Shellsburg High School, hasn’t let having her leg amputated just below the knee stop her from being active in life, or in school.

Union defeats East Marshall; to face A-P next

The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings welcomed back quarterback Jordan Womochil, who was injured three weeks earlier, as they traveled to Independence hoping to spoil the undefeated Mustangs’ Homecoming.

Vikettes, Vikings win home Cross Country meet at Rodgers Park

The Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School and High School cross country teams hosted their annual home meet on Tuesday at Rodgers Park, where both the boys and girls varsity teams each finished in first place.

Racers honor veterans; Hogan finishes 1 point behind in season points race

The racing season in Vinton wrapped up on Sunday with the annual tribute to veterans.  Approximately 20 former soldiers and sailors saluted the flag during the National Anthem, then paraded around the track in military trucks, as spectators waved and applauded.

Union drops district game to #2 South Tama on the road

The Union Knights headed to South Tama Friday night in a key 2A district 6 matchup.   Jerry Lowe had two touchdowns in the first quarter and Union's offense could not get rolling as the first half ended 13-0.
