While their fans erupted in cheers, the four members of the Vinton-Shellburg girls 4 X 800 relay team reacted to their school-record setting performance with tears.

The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings track team heads into Saturday in 2nd place among all Class 3A teams, with 34 points, seven behind 1st-place Pella. Leading the Vikings on Friday were Tyler Bartz, who took second place in the long jump while setting a new school record for the second time this season; and the 4 X 200 team (Nick Hyland, Jordan Womochil, Joel Barnes and Bartz), which finished second with a time of 1:28.

Over 100 area youth ranging in ages from 5 to 14 years old participated in the Vinton Parks & Recreation Department sponsored Live Healthy Iowa Kids Track Meet on Monday, May 16 at the Karr Athletic Complex.

Tuesday was Senior Night for the V-S girls soccer team, and the Vikettes honored eight players who are nearing the end of their high school careers: Maci Griffith, Daisy Johnson, Abby Gloede, Lyndsey Cornell, Grace Milroy, Emily Reisch, Emily Howes-Vonstein and Chloe Osborn.
