Ninja Narwhals: VS girls win Championship, Sportsmanship at Iowa Games

Ninja Narwals: VS girls win soccer championship, sportsmanship award again. This group of Vinton-Shellsburg U14 girls competed in the Iowa Games in Ames during July and won the Championship in their division.  Recently, Chuck Long, CEO/Executive Director of the Iowa Games sent a letter and more medals to the "Ninja Narwhals" congratulating them on also winning the Jim Hallihan Sportsmanship Award.

'Extremely excited, incredibly blessed:' Wiley makes VS history with KSU offer

“Something special has taken place here and we want you to be... a very special part of a very special football program.” With those words, Kansas State University Coach Bill Snyder made Drew Wiley the first Vinton-Shellsburg football player to ever be offered a Division 1 full-ride football scholarship. After waiting for a while to make sure it was the right decision, Wiley, the son of Todd and Denise Wiley, accepted the offer.

Vikings begin season vs CPU; will play Benton Week 9

The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings will begin their first of two seasons in Class 3A, District 3 football, on Aug. 26 with a renewed rivalry game with Center Point-Urbana. It's been several years since the Vikings and Stormin' Pointers have competed. The Vikings will also end their season the next two years with the rivalry game that for years has kicked off VS Football: Benton Community.

Center Point-Urbana begins 2016 football season at VS

Center Point-Urbana moves up to Class 3A in football this year, and will face teams from eastern Iowa as a member of Class 3A, District 4 Also in District 4 are: Davenport Assumption, Central DeWitt, Clear Creek-Amana, Maquoketa, Marion, Dubuque Wahlert and West Delaware. Like Vinton-Shellsburg, Benton Community begins the first of two seasons in Class 3A, District 3 football. District 3 also includes Charles City, Decorah, Independence, South Tama, Waverly-Shell Rock and Cedar Rapids Xavier. Pattee still smiling after first feature win in milestone race

Tysus Pattee celebrated his first win in the 500th modified feature to take place in Independence. The night after winning his first IMCA Modified feature race in Independence, Tysus Pattee said he was still smiling as he worked with other uniformed IMCA officials during Sunday's race in Vinton. Pattee, in his No. 68 car with the Donkeykong-themed wrap, began Saturday's feature in the pole position and fought off two challengers through three cautions to hang on for his first career feature win.

Hogan voted into All-Star Invitational race

Scott Hogan will race for the 3rd time in the All-Star Invitational Modified race in Boone, Sept. 9. Scott Hogan does not know how many fans voted for him, but on Friday he learned that enough of them did for him to earn a spot among the 30 drivers for the Sept. 9 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational modified race in boon. On the day that Scott and Jolyne are celebrating the birthday of their son, Drew -- whose initial inspired the "D" in Scott's 33D racing machine -- Scott got the call telling him he is in.

Union senior Brock Hadachek accepts football offer from UNI

Brock Hadachek and father, Jon. Senior to be Brock Hadachek has the size and speed to attract offers.  He had full ride offers from Eastern Michigan (FBS), UNI (FCS), Montana State (FCS), and South Dakota (FCS).   Several other FCS schools were courting him.  Add in one more, one of the best NCAA II schools in the nation, Northwest Missouri State; another attractive visit and offer.
