Obituaries : Kent Allen Walsh

Kent Allen Walsh, 66, of Shellsburg, passed away Monday, April 6, 2026 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The family can be contacted for more information. Teahen Funeral Home is caring for Kent and his family. 

Kent is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Kathy Walsh; mother, Margaret Walsh; siblings, Barry Walsh, Randy Walsh, and Wendy Peterson; children, Shauna (Jeremy) Burns, James Walsh, and Amanda Locke; grandchildren, Kody, Madison, and Rhyannon; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Lucy.

Kent was preceded in death by his father, James Walsh; and brothers-in-law, Dennis and Gene.

Kent was born on July 5, 1959, son of James and Margaret Bowden Walsh in Virginia. He married Kathy James Locke on April 1, 1989 in Hiawatha. Kent served in the United States Army for two years and was stationed in Panama. He worked for many years as a carpenter and asbestos remover. Kent later delivered papers for the Cedar Rapids Gazette during his retirement.

Kent enjoyed building things and even built a house. He spent time gardening, gaming, and fishing. He loved animals, especially his dog, Lucy. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
