Obituaries : Marlene Mae (Cibula) Ternus

Marlene Mae (Cibula) Ternus, 89, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at Keystone Nursing Care Center.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Van Horne (405 4th Ave, Van Horne, IA 52346) with Rev. Jacob Dunne as Celebrant. Interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Keystone following service. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 9:45 AM at the church.

Marlene was born October 30, 1936 at Marshalltown Hospital to James and Agnes (Splichal) Cibula. She graduated from Tama High School in 1956. Marlene was united in Marriage to Carroll Ternus on August 16, 1958 in a double wedding with her sister.

Marlene loved working as a daycare provider in home for 25 years. She also taught religious education for youth and was a eucharistic minister at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She loved needlepoint, prancing horses, camping, playing pepper, Chuck Norris, and watching show choir. She also loved watching soap operas, especially General Hospital. She was a MacGuyver in the kitchen and loved to cook. She loved her family very much.

Marlene is survived by her husband, Carroll; her children, Kathy Haar, Lisa (Scott) Schulte, and Deanna (Ross) Junge; her grandchildren, Jared (Melea) Haar, Jacob (Josie) Haar, Joel Haar, Jaymes Haar, Shaun (Jamie) Schulte, Derek (Tiffany) Schulte, Paige Junge, Makenna Junge, and Brock (Bella) Junge; and her great-grandchildren, Melody White-Haar, Violet White-Haar, Sebastian Schulte, Braylen Ferguson, Zevran Schulte, Ziva Schulte, Emrys Schulte, Bjorn Schulte, Zuriel Schulte, and Banks Junge.

Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, James and Agnes; her brother, John Cibula; and her son, Michael Ternus.
