Larry John “Snick” Schneekloth, age 78, of Shellsburg, Iowa, passed away peacefully at Rose Haven Nursing Home on Sunday, April 5, 2026.

Snick was born on January 27, 1948. He graduated from Prairie High School in 1966. Following graduation, he attended U.S. Trade School in Kansas City, Missouri, graduating in 1967. He rekindled his relationship with Pat Madden, they then married in 1969 (later divorced).

Snick worked for Linn Co-Op, CRST, Sam’s Club, and many other jobs. In 1979, he purchased and operated the Newhall Bowlium until it’s sale in 1997.

Throughout his life, Snick was a volunteer for the Atkins Fire Department, a Charter Member and prior president for the Newhall Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy (Olsen) Schneekloth, sister, Judy Thomas, son-in-law, Tracey Koopman, granddaughter, Tiffani Schneekloth, and many dear friends.

He is survived by his special friend of 20 years, Ruby Carolan; his daughters, Tami Koopman of North Liberty, Iowa and Jennie (Doug) Schlader of Urbana, Iowa; his son, L.J. (Holli) Schneekloth of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his nieces and nephews, Wendy Jones, Mandy Micke and Jimmy Jones (Linda); and great nephews and nieces.

Snick will be remembered for his big personality and the relationships he built throughout his life.

The family extends sincere gratitude to the staff of Rose Haven Nursing Home and Essence of Life Hospice for their compassionate care.

A private family graveside service will be held Friday, April 10, 2026. A visitation will be held Thursday, April 9, 2026 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Powell Funeral Home in Marengo. A memorial fund has been established for the Shellsburg First Responders and the Mark Harrison Cancer Foundation.
