Cargill recently donated $30,000 to the Vinton Parks & Recreation Department to support the development of Celebration Park.

In June of 2008, a flood destroyed eight homes and garages on this property and the VPRD is turning this space in to a beautiful new city park. Cargill’s donation will be used to support the creation of walking trails for foot and bicycle traffic along the limestone wall on the scenic Cedar River. The limestone wall will help prevent the erosion of the river bank and help beautify the area. The VPRD is also planning on planting new trees, grasses and flowers throughout the park.

“We are proud to do our part to support the parks & recreation department in its work to make Celebration Park a reality for our community,” said Tom Stueck, controller of Cargill’s Western U.S. grain and oilseed facilities. “The new park will serve as a wonderful place for everyone in our community, while still protecting nature and cultivating an area that had been devasted.”
