The trees are budding and so are the poets at Center Point.

Friends of the Library sponsored free poetry workshops March 26 and 27. Mature poets and mere saplings as young as kindergartners were teamed up to learn and write poetry together. The poet teams are invited to read their work at the Friends 3rd annual Spring Gala, Sunday, April 15 at 6:30 at the Library.

Workshop leader, published poet Paul Wood, showed the kids and adults how to write several simple poetry forms such as limericks and haiku. He entertained them with “extreme poetry”-- writing an instant poem out of random words thrown at him by the audience, words such as Spiderman and poopy pants!

The Gala, April 15, is a Friends fundraiser for Library programming and expansion. Besides poetry readings, the evening will include a spread of fancy finger foods (sweet and savory,) and live jazz by the John for Mayer ensemble.

Tickets are $10 for individuals and $15 for families. Make checks to Friends of the Center Point Library and drop them in the Friends box at the Library. Please specify how many people for a family ticket. Or you can send checks care of treasurer Roberta Gilchrist, 4089 Grubbs Creek Road, Center Point IA 52213. Please have your reservations in by April 6.
