Eleven 4-H members from Benton County competed in the Iowa 4-H Youth Horse Jamboree at Iowa State University March 24 & 25.

Julie Long, Belle Plaine, Karley Kenney, Vinton, Natalie Barnes and Larissa Volz, Norway, competed in the senior hippology contest where they identified tack, tested, completed stations, and presented a team presentation. Taya Feuerhelm, Van Horne, Rachel Montgomery, Belle Plaine, Ben Eden & Sarah Kreutner, Vinton, placed fifth in the junior hippology contest, and Kreutner was the seventh place individual over all. Cassie Kenney, Vinton, Dani Montgomery & Lex Stull, Belle Plaine, also competed in the junior hippology contest.

Sarah Kreutner also placed first in the junior horse clothing contest with model horse tack she created. She also entered exhibits in drawing and poetry contests. Ben Eden exhibited two photos in the photography contest.

Three teams also competed in the horse quiz bowl contest, which is a gameshow-type event covering all aspects of horse science and training. The senior team of Karley Kenney, Natalie Barnes and Larissa Volz placed fifth. The junior team of Ben Eden, Taya Feuerhelm and Rachel Montomery placed fourth, and the team of Cassie Kenney, Lex Stull and Dani Montgomery placed fifth. Lex Stull also was the first place overall junior individual and Rachel Montgomery was the third place individual.

Sarah Kreutner also participated in the model horse show where she received 5 firsts, four seconds, a division champion and a reserve champion.
