Vinton Mayor John Watson said that someone approached him and asked if people from Cedar Rapids could come to Vinton to get firewood from the storm-damaged trees recently cut down.

"Yes," replied the mayor.

"We have lots of wood," Mayor Watson said during the city council meeting last Thursday.

The mayor also said that he is pleased with the work the contractors have done in removing the trees. Also, he said, he has received no complaints.

"Considering how many places they have been and how many yards they had to go on, that's very good," said the mayor.

Wood can be taken from the former Farmers Sales site between 3rd and 4th streets, as well as the first city dump area north of Vinton.
