Former Vinton-Shellsburg School Board member Todd Wiley recited the oath of office as Benton County Supervisor on Tuesday afternoon, beginning his first day of service as the District 1 representative on the three-member panel. Wiley, a Republican, joins Democrats Terry Hertle and Don Frese, who were elected last November. Wiley will fill the unexpired four-year term of Jason Sanders; that means that in order to stay in office, Wiley will have to run again in 2014.
Magistrate J.C. Fraker administered the oath of office.
One of Wiley's first activities as supervisor will be joining his new colleagues at a meeting of the Iowa State Association of Counties later this week. That organization helps county officials from throughout Iowa to work together and share ideas concerning issues important on the county level.
