In the past couple of years, bed bugs have become a concern in homes and hotels in Iowa.
Now, said Vinton-Shellsburg Superintendent Mary Jo Hainstock, they have become an issue for school health personnel to address.
The school has recently worked with pest control experts to verify that there are not currently any bed bugs in the school, Hainstock wrote in her summary for the packet sent to school board members before tonight’s meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. at the Shellsburg school.
However, some students have reportedly come to school with bed bugs on them, causing a concern about a future infestation. Hainstock has worked with district nurses on setting up procedures for teachers to follow in case they discover signs of bed bugs in the classroom.
