Vinton Community Foundation accepting grant applications

The Vinton Community Foundation board members announced today they will be accepting grant applications for the 2013 grant program for tax exempt, non-profit, service oriented groups in Vinton. Application forms are available at Farmers Savings Bank & Trust, 401 B Avenue, Vinton or from foundation board members. Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt tradition continues

The Easter Bunny shared high fives... As far back as just about anyone in Vinton can remember, there has been a Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt every year for the past half-century or longer. In all kinds of March or April weather, children have lined up to race for the eggs at Riverside Park. That tradition continued on Saturday at the park, where Kiwanis members filled and spread out 3,000 eggs.

How to get an egg out of a tree....

Cylas Kettler was participating in the Easter Egg Hunt at Rodgers Park on Saturday, when he saw an egg placed in a small tree a little higher than his fingers could reach. He sought the help of his mom, Chelsea, to get it out. For Cylas, the event was another success -- one of the eggs he found contained a certificate for a free fishing pole.

Seventh year for Rodgers Park Easter Egg Hunt

With the help of Ehlinger's gas station and other sponsors, the Benton County Conservation Board and Park Ranger Scott Bahmann continued the Rodgers Park Easter Egg Hunt into its seventh straight year on Saturday. After children found eggs containing candy, the adults raced for eggs, many of which contained prizes. There was also a drawing for baby chicks and a few baby rabbits.

Cooling Dancers Bring Home Awards

Over 100 dancers from the Cooling Dance Center of Vinton competed March 10 at the Iowa Events Center Hy Vee Hall for the Midwest Starz Regional Event.  540 dance routines from dozens of Midwest area studios were entered in the competition.  Judging was based on dance technique, stage presentation, costume, and overall impression. The Vinton dancers brought home numerous trophies and several high point awards as follows.

'Love for Liv' candles to raise money for American Heart Association

Even before she is old enough for Kindergarten, Olivia "Liv" Spencer already uses the phrase "photo shoot" as knowingly as any model. As in: "After this photo shoot, we get to go outside and play." Born with the congenital heart defect known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, Olivia, the daughter of Steve and Kendra Spencer of  Vinton, has already been through several heart surgeries.
