Today marks the 81st anniversary of the death of Benton County Sheriff Leland Fry. A plaque was added this week to the bust of Sheriff Fry that stands in front of the northeast corner of the courthouse.

When raising kids, there was one of them that I won't name who constantly said when he was in trouble, "When YOU be a kid, I'm gonna..." Well, when I "be a kid" next time I think I want to go to Shellburg Elementary as long as Principal Ryan Davis is still the principal.

Low-Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) Now Available

LIHEAP is available to eligible Iowans on a first-come, first-served basis. Sign-ups for all qualifying Iowa households start November 1. This year is a recertification year so everyone applying needs to be seen in person.

American Legion and Boy Scouts Flag Disposal Ceremony held this week

I think the weatherman said that we hadn't seen snow on Halloween since the 1990's, so I guess we were due. Several children started their night out at the Blessed Hope parking lot where they made the rounds of all the trunks for a treat.
