Lone Musician takes it upon himself to continue Memorial Day Tradition

Chad Newton didn't intend to be seen, but his tribute to the veterans wasn't missed We might be in the middle of a pandemic and things are not as they are supposed to be, but one man didn't let that stop him. Chad Newton has played Taps for the Mt. Auburn Legion since he was 16 or 17 his mom Teddi said. But she was sure than he didn't play this year until I shared the photo above of him with her. Craig Gingrich was at the Mt. Auburn cemetery with his family decorating some of the graves there when they heard "Taps" being played.

An untraditional Memorial Day

Evergreen Cemetery proudly displays the American Flag on this Memorial Day honoring fallen veterans This Memorial Day was like so many other events this year, there but not recognized like it should be. The flags at the cemetery and around town however, remind us of the great sacrifice made by our local men and women. The majority of them returned to us, but some didn't. Were it not for our military service members this would not be the country that we grew up in and love.

The VSCSD 2020 graduation ceremonies have been postponed from the original date of Sunday, May 24 until Sunday, June 21. School officials took guidance on this date based on a parent/student survey sent out in April. The graduation ceremony format will be dependent upon recommendations and guidelines from Governor Reynolds and state health officials.

Graduate banners can now be seen in downtown Vinton store windows

Vinton is such a unique town in its capabilities. For example, the state closes the school just in time for graduation, so area parents begin to brainstorm to come up with ideas to make memories for the graduating class. Teaming up with two area businesses, Eleanor Kathryn Photography and Tharp Design, the graduates will have several acknowledgments around the town of their special day.
