First Baptist Church serves Thanksgiving Dinner to 300

First Baptist Church in Vinton provided the annual Thanksgiving Dinner to 300 area residents. Vinton's First Baptist Church provided Vinton residents with a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Each year the church prepares meals for the residents to enjoy. This year, however, because of COVID, the church decided to order heat and eat meals from Hy-Vee. On Thursday the church provided a drive-up site for residents to order the number of meals needed for their household.

Vinton Unlimited introduces New Director

Melody Snow, Vinton Enthusiast, is now the new Director of Vinton Unlimited If ever there was a person born to be doing a job it would be Melody Snow. She was chosen to fill the position of Vinton Unlimited Director, beginning on Wednesday this week. Melissa Schwan had previously filled the position, Schwan and now moved on to be the City Clerk.Snow’s first day of work was Wednesday. A Vinton native who has had her very own business cards printed up, long before this job became available, that read, “Vinton Enthusiast.

The Benton County Salvation Army needs you!

The Koeppen family took their turn ringing the Salvation Army bell on Wednesday morning Take a turn at ringing the bell this year!The Benton County Salvation Army Red Kettle Bell ringing campaign will kick off on Friday, November 20th this year. Easton Lindeman gets a visit from the Pink Fire Truck

This past February, Easton Lindeman then age 2, son of Corey and Samantha was diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma, a type of cancer that affects his adrenal glands, spinal column, and bone marrow. Neuroblastoma is a cancer that develops from immature nerve cells found in several areas of the body. Treatment for Easton started right away. This was followed by hospitalizations for both treatments and illnesses.

Vinton Fire Department Thanks Community

As we near Thanksgiving and a time to reflect on the blessings we all enjoy in our lives (and despite 2020, most of us have far more to be thankful for than we may admit at first), VFD wants to offer the deepest thanks to those who attended and supported our Vinton Fire Department Chili Supper - 2020 Special Edition!This was our only fundraising opportunity of 2020 after having to cancel both our primary fundraisers (Fish Fry and Pancake Breakfast) and we truly had no idea what to expect.

Kersten Light Display to continue, but in need of Electrical Expertise

Thanksgiving night you will again, for the 55th year, be able to enjoy the Kersten Christmas light display. The lights will be on Monday-Friday 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and on the weekends you can see them at 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. The last day to see the lights this year will be December 27th.  Heidi Kersten, said that there are a lot of repairs needed on the lights this year, thanks to a squirrel.

Dear Santa, putting a little normal in a not so normal year

Santa makes area children smile by simply appearing One of my favorite things to do is to capture Santa with all of the kids at Christmas. It is always fun to watch the mouths drop open as Santa addresses a lot of the kids by name. The kids often comment to their mom or dad, "He knows my name!" It's even funnier when the adults aren't sure who he is and have to ask. I had that question last week. "Who's playing Santa? He knew me but I didn't know who he was.

Santa‘s Mailbox has been delivered

The mailbox for letters to Santa has been delivered by the elves located at LaGrange Pharmacy Hey kids!If you would like to send Santa a letter, there is a mailbox located in front of LaGrange Pharmacy. Letters will be delivered directly to the North Pole for Santa and Mrs. Claus to read. Feel free to drop off your letter and be sure to include your address in case one of the elves would like to contact you!

 The local American Legion George G. Luckey Post 57 would like to ask you to consider a donation to the post. Like everyone else, because of COVID-19, the Post has had to curb their fundraising efforts this past year affecting their budget, no, to put it bluntly, they are struggling. For over 100 years the Legion has been in the area, serving where they can, and teaching others the importance of patriotism.
