Former CPU Teacher Adam Hildebrandt Charged with Sexual Exploitation

 Adam Lee Hildebrandt, former CPU teacher A former Center Point-Urbana Middle School Homeroom, Science and Language Arts teacher was arrested and charged with Sexual Exploitation by a School Employee. 40-year-old Adam Lee Hildebrandt resigned last year.He began having an inappropriate relationship with a 13-year-old female student during the 2020-2021 school year. The student stated that she confided personal issues to him in December 2020 and that their relationship started to change shortly after.

A Blanding's turtle found to be living at the airport A threatened species, the Blanding's turtles have arrived at the Vinton Veteran's Memorial Airport. No, it's not a petting zoo, and they didn't arrive here via a flight. They inched themselves there all by themselves. Whenever anything is done at the airport the FAA and the Iowa DNR want to know what's happening on the land. So every inch of the property is inspected to make sure that some rare animal or species isn't on the premises.

Iowa Families encouraged to Apply Now for the Century & Heritage Farm Program

Applications will be accepted until June 1, 2022Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig encourages eligible farm owners to apply for the 2022 Century and Heritage Farm Program now. The program was created by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation to recognize families who have owned their farms for 100 years and 150 years, respectively.

Kliima sentenced to 30 years

Klima sentenced to 30 years and ordered to pau $150,000 restitution On Monday, Bret D. Klima, 32, of Urbana, was sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to hitting a couple with his SUV. Judge Ian Thornhill sentenced Klima, after he pleaded guilty to one count of homicide by vehicle-operating under the influence and one count of serious injury by a vehicle. The judge gave Klima 25 years for the vehicular homicide charge and five years for the serious injury.

State of Iowa may finally consider Licensing Certified Professional Midwives

Bethany Gates with one of the babies she's helped to deliver, is hoping that the state will make licensing available to Iowa midwives "Some days it seems like God lines everything up, just to remind me that He can, and the last few days have been such an experience," said Bethany Gates, a Certified Professional Midwife through the North American Registry of Midwives, lives and works in Vinton. The Iowa midwives found out on Wednesday that two of their longtime supporters in the Iowa legislature are resurrecting a bill and giving it a "big push" before the end of this year.

Community steps up to lend a hand to the Sam and Cliff McKinley Family

Last summer Sam McKinley was in an accident that left her paralyzed. Sam and Cliff are parents of 3 little children and also farm in the Walker area. Recently the community held a fundraising benefit for the family at the Brandon Community Center. The center was packed with community members who arrived to help the family.  The event was held to help make their home more accessible to Sam.

Back of the 1897 Silver Dollar Salvation Army Has Successful Red Kettle Campaign Again in 2021.We appreciate the generosity of our community, and the daily donations of coins, $1, or $5 and even $10's and $20's that make up the bulk of our Red Kettle donations. Even the coins add up to about $50 plus dollars on most days. We are also blessed with some checks anywhere from $100 to $1,000 from a family or an organization,” Salvation Army member Julie Hansen noted.

Humiston participates in Voice of Democracy Scholarship Essay Contest

Victoria Humiston first VSCSD student to compete at VFW District Competition Victoria Humiston, daughter of Steph and Darrin Humiston, of the Vinton-Shellsburg Community School District, won the district competition as part of the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars). Vinton-Shellsburg is located in District 2. According to local VFW commander Dale Henry, this district contains small towns from Vinton to the Mississippi River and large cities like Cedar Rapids and Davenport.
