By: Isabel Mullinex (Co-Reporter)On Thursday, April 7th, 32 FFA members and 2 advisors signed up to be auctioned off by Jon Winkelpleck to volunteer within the community. At the Volunteer Auction, FFA members are sold for 8 hours of community service to do various tasks like babysitting, garden work, working livestock, chores, walking beans, fence building, as well as working at food stands at local county fairs and other events.

On Tuesday, April 19, police were called to a reported domestic dispute on W. Wood St. in Urbana. A third party who was not on the scene, reported that a female was being held against her will and that a handgun was involved. Officers were able to make contact with the suspect upon their arrival. Raymond Cullins, 31, but found no weapons had been involved.

If you saw an ambulance, fire truck, and miscellaneous police and sheriff's cars at the Vinton-Shellsburg high school this morning, it's okay. There was NOT an emergency! The local emergency services provide a bit of a reality check to area high school students on distracted and drunk driving. The department brought two cars and simulated a head-on collision, complete with injuries and deaths.

Vinton lawyer, John K. Fischer, has had his law license revoked by the Iowa Supreme Court for misappropriation of client funds. The court found an "intentional act of theft," warranted the move. Last year the Attorney Disciplinary Board accused Fischer of numerous ethics rule violations. The Grievance Commission also found several rules of professional conduct had been violated.

The Easter Bunny arrived with a basket of candy and piles and piles of eggs on the grounds of Kiwanis Park on Saturday. Our VFW Auxiliary hosts our Elementary essay contest each year at Tilford and Shellsburg Elementary Schools.  Last week we went to Shellsburg to present the students with their essay awards.  This week we went to Tilford to finish handing them out to students.  The fourth-grade theme this year was "MY FAVORITE PATRIOTIC HOLIDAY"   We had four classes of fourth-graders at Tilford and three fourth grade classes at Shellsburg.

Eastern Iowa Honor Flight announces flight to Washington DC. Flight #42 to include 89 veterans.On Tuesday, April 19, 2022, the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight will launch Flight #42. The mission of this non-profit organization is to provide veterans with a “once in a lifetime” opportunity to visit monuments and memorials built in honor of their service and sacrifice.
