Before long, Benton County farmers will begin planting their crops in the hopes of an abundant harvest in the fall. Farmers put food on our plate, produce fiber, fuel and renewable resources, while protecting our land, air and water. Benton County Farm Bureau leaders are planning to celebrate National Agriculture Day on Tuesday March 25, 2014. Ag Day is about recognizing, and celebrating, the contributions of agriculture and the value it plays into maintaining a strong economy.
The Benton County Farm Bureau Federation will be celebrating National Ag Day at our local Fareway store in Vinton. Between 5pm and 6pm on March 25, FB leaders will be on hand at Fareway visiting with shoppers about agriculture. They plan to give away $100 Fareway shopping sprees to two lucky shoppers, along with $2 off coupons for grocery purchases during that hour.
Do you know how many squirts are in a gallon of milk; how many miles of yarn you can get out of one pound of wool; how many leather footballs are made out of one cowhide; how many quarter pound hamburgers can you get out of one steer; how many pieces of bacon can you get out of one hog? Farm Bureau leaders will be asking consumers fun questions to get them to think about how much agriculture touches their everyday lives.
Benton County farmers are blessed with fertile soil and an environment that is ideal for growing crops and raising livestock. We can feel fortunate knowing that our food is being grown and raised by neighbors, farmers whose families have worked the land for generations and have remained committed to producing wholesome food and protecting our natural resources. Plan on stopping by Fareway in Vinton on March 25 between 5pm and 6pm for a chance to win a shopping spree and celebrate National Agriculture Day in Benton County
