ba September 13, 2013, 4:01 pm Homecoming has changed since I left Vinton in 2002 I am a 1989 graduate and also we use to have dress up days . paint the downtown windows and seniors wore togas and street painting by the seniors and the parade was always on Friday and king and queen was crowned on Friday at the pep assembly. So I am disappointed homecoming changed
KN September 16, 2013, 1:02 pm they still do the dress up days for homecoming week
LV September 19, 2013, 9:37 am They still paint the downtown windows, they still have dress up days - themes for each day and the Srs. are the only ones that get to wear togas, today, They still have the parade, they still have the queen and king, and they still paint the streets. Yes, certain things have changed, but all in all homecoming traditions are still in place, just a different time and place.
ts September 19, 2013, 9:43 pm Part of the reason the crowning changed is because in order to include the entire community and since the majority of parents work during the day having the parade and coronation in the evening makes sense. What makes more sense is having the queen crowning on Friday at the game to get more involved. The crowning here is still not as regal as some schools like Oelwein or Prairie. I went to OHS and its a pretty big deal at halftime. So the way VS does it now is a huge improvement over how they did it when my son Josh Kauten went to high school! Love the involvement of the community!!
MM September 20, 2013, 9:09 am I\'m glad to see the parade at a time when so many more can view it. I used to have to take 1/2 vacation day in order to see my daughter march in the parade (band member).
