EAA Young Eagles to visit the Airport and offer flights to Children

The EAA Young Eagles event will be held at the airport on June 8, from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m."Young Eagles is a program through the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) through which kids ages 8-17 are given free rides in aircraft our own aircraft to introduce them to general aviation and flying. Since 1993 EAA has flown over 2 million kids worldwide.

Fuel Up For Summer Fun

Tilford Elementary and Shellsburg Elementary will be providing FREE breakfast and lunch from June 10th-August 16th (Closed during the week of July 1)The meals are provided to children and teens ages 1-18, there is no registration or identification required. (Children under 5 must be accompanied by an adult.

On Monday, May 27, Memorial Day beginning at 8:00 a.m. the American Legion will hold a combined service for Maplewood and St. Mary's Cemetery in the south driveway of Maplewood.At 8:30 a.m. a service will begin at Evergreen Cemetery.10:00 a.m. the Legion will march to the bridge starting by the old Legion building accompanied by the Vinton Shellsburg marching band.

Traditional American Legion Auxiliary Poppy Sales begin in Vinton, Iowa on May 16th, 2019.Sandy Driscol, president of the Vinton American Legion Unit #57, presents the first poppy this year to Ron Albright, the American Legion Post #57 commander. Poppy Day is May 16th at Vinton's local businesses.  The money will be donated to veterans and their needs.
