The Iowa State University Dairy Farm welcomes community members of all ages to the annual Dairy Open House on June 19 from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. The day offers a behind-the-scenes look at modern dairy farming, animal care and agricultural innovation at Iowa State.
The family-friendly event is offered at no cost and will take place at the ISU Dairy Farm, located at 52470 260th Street, Ames. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the facility, speak with sponsors and dairy farmers and learn how milk is produced.
Visitors can expect interactive booths, guided farm tours and hands-on dairy production activities. Attendees can also ask questions to students, faculty and staff involved in the university’s dairy program to learn more about careers in agriculture and animal science.
“We’re excited to invite the community out to see firsthand how our dairy farm operates,â€ said Gail Carpenter, assistant professor and extension dairy specialist at Iowa State. “This event is a great way to connect people with where their food comes from and highlight the important role of dairy in Iowa’s agricultural landscape.â€
Registration is not required and the event is open to the public.
