Early Arts Study Club to meet

The Early Arts Study Club will be meeting at the home of Barbara Fuchs, 1010 Golf View Dr., Vinton, on Monday April 19th at 2 p.m. Becky Primus will be presenting a program on the topic of "Silhouettes" Anyone is welcome to attend.

Lions Club Gives Clickstop A Chance to Shine

Submitted By Heather Rast 4/15/10 At a Lions Club meeting yesterday, Don Eells gave Clickstop’s owner an opportunity to introduce his company to local business and community leaders.   Speaking to approximately 50 members, Tim Guenther discussed the company’s history, category expertise, and plans for growth including a new facility slated for January 2011.

Americorp speaks at Kiwanis Club

Vinton Kiwanis Club met at noon Tuesday April 13 for the regular meeting at Pizza Ranch in the back meeting room. The program was given by 4 Americorp members. Although members have visited the the past 2 seasons, this bunch was different. They told of their group projects, and personal volunteer experiences. However on a more specific slant, they also told of their attitude toward Iowa, and Vinton.

Vinton Women's Club to name Woman of the Year April 20

 The Vinton Women's Club will be naming the 2010 Woman of the Year at the annual spring dinner on April 20th at 6:00 p.m. at the Vinton Country Club.  Dinner reservations may be made with Lorraine Steinford at 472-2795.

Burton's 'Alice in Wonderland' controversy: Some love it, some hate it at Palace

  Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” is controversial – Palace patrons either can’t wait to see it or would rather have a tooth pulled. This film is rated PG and is artistically bright and colorful, but please be warned – the dark, confusing undertones (or are those blatant overtones?) present in the classic story, and capitalized upon by Burton in the movie, may be psychologically damaging to you and your impressionable youth.

Calling all Money Smart Kids in the Area

Money Smart week this year is April 17-24.  In support of this event, the Iowa Bankers Association and Iowa Credit Union League are sponsoring the 4th Annual Money Smart Kid Essay Contest for the Federal Reserve Bank of Chigago outreach event. The winner will help promote financial iteracy for Money Smart Week. One student will be named this year's Money Smart Kid, and receives a $1,000 College Savings Iowa account, funded jointly by the Iowa Bankers Association and the Iowa Credi Union League.

'James and the Giant Peach' coming to VSHS this weekend

The Vinton-Shellsburg High School Drama Department is putting the finishing touches on its production of “James and the Giant Peach,” which will take the stage at the VSHS auditorium on Saturday, April 10 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 11at 2 p.m. When his mother (Marisa Chavez) and father (Wyatt Oltrogge) are swallowed up by a rhinoceros, poor James (Parker Oltrogge) is left in the care of his nasty aunts, Spiker (Nikki Thompson) and Sponge (Stephanie Waterbury).
