The Iowa Pyrotechnic Association will meet again at the Yedlik farm northeast of Vinton during Memorial Day weekend.

The weekend begins with a business meeting at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 29. A class on 4-inch canister shell building will follow the business meeting.

There will be a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. that day.

On Sunday afternoon, Scott Dixon, the brother of IPA member Jerry Dixon, will make a presentation on rocketry.

In part, Jerry says of his brother: “One product he manufactures is a rocket assisted parachute ejection system that can be fired through the cockpit skin of a small aircraft. To deploy a 100lb parachute that will bring the entire airplane down to the ground safely if it is in trouble. He plans to bring one of these rocket motor units to fire, plus some other goodies. Get your questions ready because he will be glad to answer them and help you make even better rockets than you make now.”

The grill will be open Sunday evening for members to bring their own burgers, brats, hot dogs or other meat.

And as usual, IPA members will be building and firing shells both days. A 16-inch shell will also be displayed sometime during the weekend.

Camping is still available. RSVP to Charles Yedlik. Call 319-640-0420 or e-mail barypyros@gmail.com

IPA events are usually open to members only. Those interested in joining IPA may contact Thomas Pingenot at 319-472-5216 or by email at tsp@tjgas.com
