Garrison library project:$100,000 already raised; efforts continue with Festival
Garrison Library Update: It's not just a library anymore! Latest plans (still to be finalized) include a city office and a community room. Over $100,000 has been raised, and this does not include insurance money! Please come to our Fall Festival at the Lutheran Church this Sunday, Sept. 23, from 4-7. All money raised will go toward the new building.
Pre-Diabetes Class to be offered at VGH
Virginia Gay Hospital’s Diabetes Education Program is offering a Pre-Diabetes Class for those who have elevated glucose or are at risk for developing Type 2 Diabetes. You may benefit from this class if you have a family history of Type 2, sedentary lifestyle, are overweight, have high BP or blood fats, or had gestational Diabetes, or babies weighing more than nine pounds.

Class of 1972 to meet Sept. 21-22
The Class of 1972’s 40th class reunion will be held on Friday, September 21 and Saturday, September 22. The 21st is homecoming so members can go to the game or go to the “Ultra” Lounge at Berry’s Bowling alley either before or after the game for time to catch up or try your old P.E. bowling skills.
Saturday evening there will be an appetizer buffet at the Vinton Country Club starting at 6:00 p.
Windsor Manor Showcasing Art created by residents
National Assisted Living week is the 9th – 15th of Sept and we will be showcasing the Art of our residents. This year’s theme is Art for the Ages.
Feel free to stop out at Windor Manor and view the art, and speak with the artists themselves!

Free sessions spotlight rights and responsibilities of citizenship
Kirkwood Community College presents its seventh annual Constitution Day program on Monday, September 17, 2012, in celebration of the United States Constitution and its varied and diverse influences on our lives. This day also celebrates those who have become citizens through naturalization, or by coming of age, thus echoing one of Kirkwood’s designated general education goals: “Students will recognize the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.
CP library plans quilt show, book sale
At its September 6, 2012, meeting, Center Point Friends of the Library elected officers and made plans for a quilt show and book sale for Oct. 20.
The quilt show/book sale will be from 9 to 3, Saturday, October 20. Many of the large selection of quilting and needlework books were donated by the family of the late Arametta Romine. Others came from Shirley Hollenbeck’s collection.
