Some of the Vinton Parks & Recreation Department’s facilities will be undergoing some haunting changes in the next week in celebration of Halloween and needs your help!

Next Friday night on October 26th, the Hesson Shelter at Riverside Park will become the Haunted Shelter for one night only from 6:30 to 9 PM. Participants will have a chance to experience a labyrinth of terror as they navigate their way through a maze where ghastly scenes await around every corner. VPRD is in need of some additional “character actors” (i.e. monsters and ghouls) to help make this a frighteningly more exhilarating experience for those who dare enter. Anyone interested in helping should be enthusiastic about getting into character to provide some quality scares to the participants. Volunteers should be able to meet by 5:15 PM on the day of the event to allow plenty of time to get into costume and review the evening’s plans for horror. VPRD will provide masks and makeup but volunteers may provide their own costume if they’d like (as long as it is adheres to the frightening theme of the evening).

The following evening on Saturday, October 27th the miniature golf course will be crawling with things that go bump in the night at the annual Ghostly Glow Mini Golf. Participants will have the opportunity to golf on the nine hole mini golf course at the Vinton Skate & Activity Center from 7 to 9 PM. Making the evening of glow-in-the-dark mini golf more challenging, however, is that you just never know what might be creeping in the bushes…

VPRD is in need of some volunteers that grin at the prospect of dressing up in their most frightening attire and providing some light scares to those who choose to step outside on the course. The monsters and ghouls for this event help to provide for an eerie yet fun Halloween and mini golf experience.

As for the number of monsters and ghouls we are looking to recruit, our adage is: the more, the scarier! If you have an interest in taking part in either of these events, VPRD could certainly use your help! Please call Brad at the Vinton Parks & Recreation Department office at 472-4164 or e-mail at vprdbarker@vintoniowa.net if you are interested.
