VPRD to host Annual Parent/Child Turkey Shoot Free Throw Contest

The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department will be hosting its annual Parent/Child Turkey Shoot Free Throw Contest on Sunday, November 10th at the Vinton Recreation Center.   Starting at 2 PM, teams consisting of a parent and child will compete for their chance to win a turkey courtesy of Fareway in Vinton. There will be three divisions based on the combined age of the team members (44 & Below, 45-54, 55 & Up).

VS plans annual Veterans Day assembly Nov. 11

The Veterans Day Program will begin at 9:30 am on Monday Nov 11th. Our community wide assembly will be held at Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School in the gymnasium. We ask all veterans to attend and be seated in the chairs on either side of the podium that morning. A breakfast will be served in the middle school cafeteria starting at 8:15 am, for any veteran and their family who are attending the assembly.

Vinton After 5 Club plans annual fund-raising dinner, Nov. 12

The Vinton After 5 Club will have its annual fund-raiser, Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 6:15 p.m. at the 4th Street Diner, 202 E. 4th Street. Ladies, bring your crafts, bakery or canned foods. Our speaker, Phyllis Voss of Ankeny, will discuss "Sounds of the Heart." All ladies are welcome. Cost is $6. For reservations or cancelations call Bev Citano at 472 2171 by  Nov.

Naturalists plan charcoal art seminar

The Benton County Conservation Department is planning Charcoal Art event for Saturday, Nov. 16. The class will take place at the Nature Center from 10 a.m. to noon. Pre-register by Nov. 14 by callng (319)472-4942 Learn how to make your own fine art charcoal using household items, willow, and grapevine. We will also be making some artwork with our charcoal.

PEO MZ to meet Nov. 11

PEO Chapter MZ will meet Mon., November 11, at 1:30 PM at the home of Brenda Hackbarth assisted by Jo Schmidt.  Frieda Davis will present the program.

Better Tomorrows Board to meet Nov. 6

The Better Tomorrows Board will be meeting on November 6th at the Tama County Public Health Office at 12:00 p.m. Topics of discussion will be Review of the Community Plan; Policies and Procedures; Program Reports; Co-Director Reports and the Financial Report. Happy Halloween: Trick-or-Treat hours are from 5-7 p.m. in Vinton

Two of the VGH lab techs show off their costumes this morning. Happy Halloween! Vinton residents at work and school celebrate the day with a variety of costumes, and of course, treats.  The City of Vinton has announced that official Trick-or-Treating hours are from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31.  The Virginia Gay Hospital Nursing and Rehab Center will also welcome Trick-or-Treaters from 5 to 7 p.

FOOD AND HOW TO FROM CP FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 9 This is cooking weather and Center Point Friends of the Library has cooked up an event to inspire you. “A Taste in Time” cookbook sale and tasting party will be from 9 to 1 on Saturday, November 9, at the Library. Friends members reviewed ingredients after the Library addition fund raising committee meeting October 24.

Another Honor Flight for area veterans

Who has more fun than three bus loads of Eastern Iowa Honor Flight Veterans and Escorts??? NOBODY. October 16,2013 was a memorable trip for many eastern Iowa Veterans. The government wasn't working but the staff of Honor Flight was and with the police escort traveled through Washington DC with ease. A long day and many memories for all.
