VPRD Bingo returns this weekend

The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department is excited about hosting another great season of BINGO at the Vinton Skate & Activity Center. Our first event date is this Sunday, January 25 from 5-7 PM and the other two will take place on February 22 and March 29. The best part is that it is a completely free event as well! The last several years we have had a tremendous turnout with participants ranging in age from 2 all the way through 100! So needless to say, this is an all ages event and everyone is welcome to attend.

VS Band Soup Supper set for this Friday, Jan. 23

Come out and support the VS Band program and boys basketball teams this Friday, Jan. 23 and VSHS High School.  The band will be hosting their annual Soup Supper while the basketball teams compete against Clear Creek Amana.  Serving starts at 5 p.m.   On the menu is all you can eat chili, homemade chicken noodle soup, veggies and pie.

Speaker to share story of Iowa's 'Underground Railroad' in Vinton, Feb. 14

Cedar Rapids storyteller Darrin Crow will be sharing "Iowa's Underground Railroad" on Saturday February 14 at 2:00 pm at the Ray House at 912 First Ave., Vinton. Darrin’s presentation will examine the heroic fight against slavery in America and Iowa's pioneers made a bold stand. Their courageous efforts led hundreds of escaping slaves to freedom along Iowa's Underground Railroad.

First VU After 5 of 2015 set for Iowa Braille School Tonight

After Hours events are back for 2015 and we are going to kick off the fun at the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School!  There are some really cool things going on at the historic landmark in Vinton that the Mary Ingalls Society would love to share with you! Please park on the circle drive at the front on the building and enter through the main door.

CP Library Friends regroup after being frozen out; plan tea party

The regular meeting of the Center Point Friends of the Library was called off because of wind chill January 8 and the group enjoyed the warm hospitality of the Center Point Pizza Place for a morning make up meeting January 12, 2015. Friends put finishing touches on planning for the fund-raising Fancy Nancy tea party at the Library Saturday January 31.

FFA Veterans Benefit Pancake Breakfast set for Jan 31, at VSHS

On January 31st, 2015 the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter will be hosting a Veterans Benefit Pancake Breakfast, to support local Veterans.         The breakfast will be held at the Vinton-Shellsburg High School cafeteria at 7 am till 11 am. The meal will include sausage links, eggs, coffee, and of course pancakes!         This Pancake Breakfast is open to any one who wishes to come and it will be a free will donation with all proceeds going to the Benton County Veterans Assistance Program.

Shooting sports training meeting set for Jan. 21

4-H Safety Education and Shooting Sports will be having an organizational meeting at the Linn County Extension and Outreach office, 383 Collins Rd. NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa on January 21, 2015 at 6:30 PM. This meeting is open to all adults interested in helping with 4-H Shooting Sports by becoming volunteers trained in 4-H Youth Development and Shooting Sports.

Mobile Food Pantry to be held this Saturday, January 10

Mobile Food Pantry this Saturday, at the HACAP Dining 10-11:30. We will provide boxes for the food to be carried in. Doors will open early for people to come in out of the cold.
