Violet Rose Oberreuter, 84, of Cedar Rapids, IA went to be with Jesus in Heaven, February 2, 2026; at her home, surrounded by her family.

Violet was born January 26, 1942 to Samuel and Dorothy (Birch) Vargason in Iowa City, IA. She attended Blairstown High School. On February 27, 1960, Violet married the love of her life, Richard Oberreuter. Violet farmed and milked cows alongside Richard and their boys for over 20 years. She later worked for Frontier Herbs and Merry Maids as a Sales Representative.

Violet was a strong Christian woman whose faith never wavered. She was an active member of Prairie View Christian Church in Norway, assisting with lunches and children’s youth camp. She devoted herself to constant prayer and reading scripture daily without fail.

Violet was a fabulous cook who took great pride in providing for her family. Above all else, she treasured time with her grandchildren and being home with those she loved. She looked forward each year to wintering in Arizona, where she and her husband shared 16 wonderful seasons together.

Violet loved beyond measure and truly was an angel on earth. She accepted and loved people for who they were. She believed deeply that love within a family is constant and enduring, standing strong through every season of life — “through thick and thin”.

Violet is survived by her sons, Todd (Deborah) Oberreuter and Thomas (Lori) Oberreuter; grandchildren, Brad (Stephanie), Dawn, Adam, Ryan, Alex; great-granddaughter, Emma; sister and loving caretaker, Jan (John) Meyer; sister-in law, Jane Oberreuter; nieces, Brandi (Michael) Flood, Kadi (Aaron) McVay (children, Avary, Sloan, and Hudson), Lindsay (Todd) Baumgartner (children, Quinndalin, and Meyer); nephew, Jonathan Meyer; dear friends, Carol and Shellie; loving Pomeranian, Charlie along with many more nieces, nephews family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 61 years, Richard (2021); sister, Dorothy Mae Lahue; brother, Kenneth Vargason; in-laws, Al and Agnes Oberreuter.

Violet’s family is comforted by the knowledge that she is in heaven, which brings them peace and the strength to honor and celebrate her life until they are reunited in the presence of the Lord.

Memorial service is 11:00 a.m. Wednesday February 11, 2026 at Prairie View Christian Church, Norway with visitation 9-11 a.m. prior to the service. Private family burial will take place at St. Patricks and St. Pauls Cemetery, Watkins, IA.
