Obituaries : Marion F. Moser

GARRISON - Marion F. Moser, 91, died Saturday, October 22, 2016, at home from natural causes. "Now is the time for me to go to work in the Lord's garden."� --Marion Moser Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 25, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton with Pastor Pete Buschmann officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton. Marion was born May 29, 1925, in Greeley, Iowa, the son of Arthur Fredrick and Ada Elizabeth Neiderfrank Moser. He graduated from Greeley High School in 1944. On July 15, 1962, Marion was united in marriage with Virginia Kay Johnson at the Garrison United Methodist Church. Marion farmed in the Greeley and Earlville areas for 50+ years until moving to Garrison in 1976. He drove semi for CRST for 5 1/2 years, and drove a gasoline tanker for Bork Transport. He was also employed by Theisen's for 21 years, retiring in April of 2013 at age 87. Marion was a member of the Garrison United Methodist Church. He acted as their delegate to annual church conferences in Des Moines for several years. Marion was active in Delaware County. He was a 4-H leader and pitched baseball in Delaware County for 10 years. He also won the Level Land Plowing Contest in 1951 and 1952. He went on to the state-level contest and placed 8th out of 20 contestants. Marion was well-known for his garden. He grew vegetables that he sold at 5 area farmers' markets for 25 years. Marion is survived by his wife, Virginia; one daughter, Kris Green of Cedar Rapids; three sons: Tim (Nancy) Moser of Dundee; Dean Moser of New Orleans, LA; and Ted Moser of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Marg Lavon Erickson of Manchester; grandsons, TJ and Michael Moser and great-grandson, Dylan Moser. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Arthur Moser. The family will direct memorials to support local farmers markets.
