Roger James Evans

Roger James Evans, 77, passed away Monday, June 7th, 2021, at Allen Hospital, in Waterloo, Iowa following a battle with cancer.He was born August 10th, 1943, to Merrill James Evans and Neva Ruth (Stevenson) Evans in Vinton, Iowa.Roger was born with a disability that, at that time in our society, should have been extremely limiting for him. He refused to accept those limitations and achieved an independence and lust for life that many, without disabilities, fail to achieve.

Gregory “Greg” Alec Breja

Gregory “Greg” Alec Breja, 50, of Elberon, IA passed away suddenly, June 5, 2021 at his home, due to a heart condition. Greg was born October 11, 1970 in Waterloo, IA to Stephen and Elizabeth “Betty” (Gindt) Breja. He graduated from Belle Plaine High School, class of 1989. Following school, Greg lived at home to help his family on the farm as well as other famers in the area.

Douglas Gene Thompson

Douglas Gene Thompson, age 69, died unexpectedly on Monday, June 7, 2021 at his home in Vinton Private family services will be held.  Douglas was born October 9, 1951 to William and Arlene (Bushnell) Thompson.  He attended Washington High School in Vinton.  He served his country in the United States Army and later enlisted in the Navy.


Richard John (Dick or affectionately called Dickie Doo) Mouchka, 85, passed away peacefully Friday, May 28, 2021, at his home in Lake Havasu City, Ariz.Dick was born and graduated from high school in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the son of Charley and Opal Mouchka. He served the Army in Alaska and then returned to Marengo, Iowa, where he farmed and fed cattle for many years.

Terry Lee Newton

Terry Lee Newton, 77, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 7, 2021, at his home in Blairstown with his family by his side. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday June 10, 2021 at Grace Lutheran Church in Blairstown with Rev. Jeff Schanbacher officiating.  Interment will be held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Blairstown.  Friends may call from 4:00 until 7:00 PM Wednesday at the Church in Blairstown.

Melvin August Krug

Melvin August Krug, 95, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 4, 2021, at the Gardens of Cedar Rapids with his family by his side. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Atkins with Rev. Douglas Woltemath and Rev. Jeff Schanbacher officiating.  Interment will be held at St. Stephens Cemetery, with graveside military rites by the Adolph H.

Esther M. Buelow, 91, of Marion, passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Services at11 a.m. Monday, June 7, at St. John Lutheran Church in Center Point. The Rev. Thomas C. Van Hemert will officiate. Visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church in Center Point. Interment at 1:15 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Velma Van Scoy

Velma Van Scoy, 87, of Winterset, passed away, Saturday, May 29, 2021, at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2021, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset. A private family funeral service will be held on Friday. Burial will take place in the Winterset Cemetery.Velma Elizabeth Katherine Schminke was born November 22, 1933, in Benton County, Iowa.

Easton Richard Lindeman

Easton Richard Lindeman, at the age of 3, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2021 at University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital following a year-long battle with cancer.     A celebration of Easton's life will be held from 1:00-5:00 PM Saturday, June 5th, 2021, at Celebration Park, 105 W. 2nd Street Vinton.     Easton was born on August 16, 2017 son of Corey and Samantha (Yenser) Lindeman in Cedar Rapids IA.

Edward Gayle Smith

Edward Gayle Smith, age 93, died Sunday, May 30, 2021, at the Keystone Care Center, Keystone following an extended illness. Private family services will be held at the Keystone Cemetery.  Ed was born October 28, 1927, to Joseph and Martha (Lamar) Smith and graduated from Ottumwa High School. He served in WWII (Army) 1946-48. On Nov. 25, 1948, he was united in marriage to Doris (Deburn).
