Dr. Brian Meeker, of Virginia Gay Hospital was awarded the University of Iowa PA Program Lifetime Achievement and Service Award for his years of service to PA education.

In an article from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, Department of Physician Assistant Studies and Services, the university recognized him for mentoring between 9 and 11 students each year for decades.

Following his graduation from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences and finishing his residency at St. Luke's Medical Center, Dr. Meeker settled in Vinton at the Virginia Gay Hospital as a Family Medicine practitioner.

He is also the "Medical Director for four nursing homes in the area, the Cedar Falls Mortorsports Park and several area ambulances and first responder services. He has been the Benton County Medical Examiner for 30 years. He regulary performs endoscopy, colonoscopies and upper GI scopes for the facility. In his free time, he can be seen on the sidelines of nearly every Friday night home high school football game - as a fan and medical provider, as needed," according to an article released by the college.
