Last week Benton County held a formal open house for folks to come and explore the services available to all of the Benton County residents.

The Benton County Sheriff's Office brought along a trailer with hidden paraphernalia that might be used by people who have a substance abuse issue. Residents had an opportunity to explore and see if they could find all of the items hidden in the room and pick up on some of the clues that could be found and help to identify a concern in their home.

The Vinton Food Pantry was also busy serving area families at the opposite end of the property. The pantry gave out food and fresh produce from the local garden just outside the door. The food was grown by the efforts of several in the community on the county property. The pantry serves around 80 families a week, with the numbers increasing due to need.

Agencies present in addition to the Benton County Sheriff's office were the Department of Health and Human Services, ISU Extension, Above the Influence, C. I. S. M., Plugged In, ASAC, Heritage Aging Services, HACAP, Stepping up, Benton County Public Health and others.

Benton County has multiple services and coalitions that you may have never heard of. This open house was a reminder of options that some may not know are available.

If you have questions about any of the services that might be offered, feel free to contact Michelle Brown at the Rural Access Hub with any questions mbrown@bentoncountyia.gov and she will gladly help to connect you to the correct office.
