The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in special session with Supervisors Seeman, Tippett and Volz were all present. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. at the Benton County Farm Bureau Building. Other elected officials present were Auditor Hayley Rippel, Recorder Lexa Speidel and Treasurer, Melinda Schoettmer.
Discussions were had on the FY 26 County Budget. The recent assessment notices that went out were the first topic for discussion. Others topics ranged from the 911 Radio Tower project, Secondary roads and seal coating projects along with Conservation projects and the new cell at the landfill. There were concerns regarding the rock costs and limited vendors in the county, and how it can be monopolizing and it was suggested that the county needs some competition in a few different areas. Auditor Rippel had prepared copies of the proposed budget along with the legislations property tax reform plan. This led to areas of concerns for future budgeting years and how things could become more difficult. The county explained how they utilized grant funding along with the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds for recent projects and purchases. The Recorder and Treasurer both spoke up on ways their offices area able generate revenue to offset some of their expenses. This includes allowing residents from other counties to come register vehicles, renewals of licensing, and passports. Farm Bureau members thanked us all for coming.
