Name: Alex Cutts

Hometown: Coweta, Okla.

Alex is serving as a member of the NCCC FEMA Corps team Pine 3 at the Vinton Campus. She learned about the AmeriCorps NCCC program from her youth pastor who served in class 17 at the Sacramento Campus. Alex decided to serve in the program because she felt called to dedicate her time to volunteering.

Alex graduated from Coweta High School in 2011 and served in NCCC at the Vicksburg Campus prior to joining FEMA Corps. After her service term ends she hopes to either go to New Orleans and serve as an AmeriCorps state/national member with Habitat For Humanity or attend community college.

Alex says, “I feel as if most people my age don't get the opportunity to volunteer and travel in so many places. This has taught me to not only respect different backgrounds but also to appreciate what I have and nurture my desire to learn more and contribute to society.”

Alex and her team are currently serving on their final project in Kansas City, Missouri after spending the last two rounds in New Jersey working on the Hurricane Sandy response with FEMA. They will return to Vinton in June for graduation.
