Elizabeth Sprague, from North Berwick, Maine, is the Program Office Support Team Leader in NCCC’s Class 19. She arrived in Vinton on January 3, 2013, to start her 11-month service term assisting in the program development and events for the North Central Region. She may also be called upon at any time to lead a team.

Elizabeth, known to most as Liz, chose to serve in NCCC because of her experience in her previous year. Liz was a Corps Member at NCCC’s Southern Region in Vicksburg, Miss. “I grew a lot during my Corps Member year and wanted to expand my growth and future opportunities,” she said.

Liz has many skills that she brings to her position of Program Office Support Team Leader. She has experience in leadership, construction, trail building and administrative assistance. All of these will help her manage tasks in the program office as well as give her experience for the other volunteer projects she wants to take on throughout the year.

Prior to joining NCCC the first time, Liz was working at a hotel. She graduated from York County Community College in 2010 with an associate’s degree in liberal studies. She also graduated from Noble High School in 2008. After finishing NCCC, Liz hopes to go back to school to get a bachelor’s degree.

This will be Liz’s third year of service with AmeriCorps. “I was a Corps Member with NCCC from February 2012 to December 2012 and completed a part-time AmeriCorps State term from September 2009 to September 2010,” she said.

Q: What was your first job? I was a cashier at a strange store called Rey’s. Think Wal-Mart meets camping, meets the elderly.

Q: What is your favorite movie? Donnie Darko

Q: What will be your first words of advice for your team members? “Be patient.”

Q: What is one place in the world that you really, really wish you could visit? I want to go back to NOLA!

Q: What is your favorite candy? Heath Bar

Q: If you could come back as an animal which animal would it be and why? Cuddle fish – they change to crazy colors and patterns. I also wish I knew how to swim.

Q: What do you like to do in your free time? Play music
