The Vinton-Shellsburg Red Cedar Shooters trap team took home the 5th place trophy after a day of close competition at the Cedar Falls Gun Club's 28th Annual High School Trap Tournament Saturday.
The Red Cedar Shooters Black Squad turned in a team score of 223/250 in the regular competition round, which was just 4 shots out of 1st place. Tie-breaker shoot-off's for 2nd and 3rd place teams tied with 224/250, and a shoot-off for the Red Cedar Shooters for 4th and 5th place at 223/250 made for a day of very tight competition.
Red Cedar's Sara Jorgensen was involved in a shoot-off for the 4th place Lady top shot trophy, and Logan Salger was the Red Cedar Shooters high scoring individual of the day with 48/50, which placed him in a shoot-off for Male top shot honors.
The Red Cedar Shooters set a team record for the day with a total of 5 perfect 25-straight rounds being recorded.
Drake Tilson scored the first 25 straight of the day in practice rounds, Logan Salger recorded a 25 straight in the competition round from the 16 yard line, and Sara Jorgensen scored her first-ever 25 straight in the competition round, and did it from the 19 yard line.
During team shoot-off's, Drake Tilson and Sara Jorgensen each scored another 25 straight.
