After visiting a few other Iowa colleges and thinking he had found at least one he liked, Vinton-Shellsburg senior basketball player Grant Sagan went to Grand View University in Des Moines and found "the match" for his collegiate hoops career.
"I like the coach, I like the size, I liked that it was a 4-year school, and the players were all very nice to me," said Grant, who officially signed with Grand View Monday morning. Grant also says he likes the university's academic opportunities -- he is undecided yet on his major but is considering a variety of options, including architectural design and physical therapy.
Grand View head basketball coach Denis Schaefer traveled from Des Moines to Vinton, where Grant signed his NCAA Letter of Intent in a VSHS conference room.
Grant's parents, Nick and Angela, along with siblings Nolan, Anna and Josie attended the signing.
Coach Schaefer said Grant brings good ball handling skills and the ability to shoot from the perimeter to Grand View, whose sports teams are also known as the Vikings.
"He will be a great match for us," said Coach Schaefer.
VS Coach Joe Johnson also attended and said he his happy that Grant will continue to be a Viking. While previous players have gone on to play college basketball during Johnson's seven years in Vinton, Grant is the first one to sign a National Letter of Intent before the signing deadline, said Johnson.
