The Vinton-Shellsburg Red Cedar Shooters hosted AGWSR for their first Trap Shooting meet of the season today at the Red Cedar Chapter of the Izaak Walton League. The Red Cedar Shooters won today’s event, with V-S Junior Caleb Svoboda taking the male Top Shot honors with a score of 46/50, and V-S Junior Sara Jorgensen taking the female Top Shot honors with a score of 41/50. 30 Red Cedar Shooters competed in today’s meet, which, for 16 new members of this year’s team, was their first ever competitive High School event. Blue Squad 81 (4 shooters) Daniel Ervin, V-S Senior and 4th year member of the team, achieved the prestigious distinction of qualifying as an NRA/Winchester Marksmanship Program “Distinguished Expert” in the Shotgun-Trap Shooting discipline today, turning in his 10th score of 22 or better (out of 25) in a single round. Ervin joins 3 other current Red Cedar Shooters qualified as Distinguished Experts. The Red Cedar Shooters next event is Saturday, April 13th at the Otter Creek Sportsman’s Club in Cedar Rapids.
