The Vinton-Shellsburg boys’ basketball team will play in the state tournament starting on Tuesday, March 5 at 3:45.

The school district will have a three hour early out on Tuesday so students and families can attend the game.

We are working on providing pep busses for our middle school and high school students for $13/seat which includes a ticket to the game and the bus. The building offices will have more information available later this week about sign-up and the time they will leave.

It has been great to see so many fans at the regular season and post-season games including students, parents, and community members. We anticipate Vinton-Shellsburg will have another great turn-out in Des Moines!

Go Vikes!

LK February 27, 2013, 5:38 pm When does education comes before sport, no matter if the children get out three hours early they are still missing very important time in the classroom. It seem like the school puts sport before our education again just like they side in 1996 when they went to state then. This is the only sport that gets this kind of treatment not track when they went to state or any other sport so what\'s the different with this one. Our children\'s education should be the first and far most important not sports when they do bad in school it sports that they cut from then or another special activities. When did our children education start taking a backseat to sport?
RF' February 27, 2013, 6:36 pm It\'s called school spirit. This is something exciting for the community because it doesn\'t happen a lot. With the game being at 3:45 and 2 hours away most classrooms would only be half full anyways. It\'s not like they are taking the whole day off why penalize the students and teachers for that matter with make up work. As a former Viking athlete I know that it takes hard work to make it to state both in practice and in the classroom. Don\'t take this accomplishment away from these kids who have worked hard and EARNED this half day off for the school district. Go Vikings
LK February 28, 2013, 7:37 pm Sports should always come second even with school spirt, but what happen to track, football, and all of the other sports that have made it to state but don\'t get the same treatment. This isn\'t fair I know, being a former Viking mom I have seen it, so why basketball only. Don\'t the other sport deserve the same treatment then if not because of education should be the far most important no matter even if there is make up work. They knew what they were getting into when they sign up so don\'t say that education shall never take a back sit. Never it\'s not right. College don\'t do it so why should high school or any one else or that matter treat all sports equal not just basketball getting a free pass for a early out, other sport should get it to then including, cross country, track, football, volleyball but they don\'t.
