Aloha!

The Benton County Speedway will host Hawaiian and Fuzzy Friends night on Sunday, July 22. Fans are encouraged to wear Hawaiian shirts and bring supplies for Friends of the Shelter that night. Everyone who participates will be entered into a drawing for a gas grill provided by Mike & Susan Benson, Judy Burkey, Ryan Clark and Lon's Plumbing & Heating. Supplies needed for the shelter include cat toys, litter scoops, Diamond Naturals cat food (available at Theisen's), kitten food with no red dyes, dog food, all sizes rawhides, leashes, cloth towels and quality canned food.

The first 400 people through the gates will receive a free lei, and barbequed pork sandwiches will be added to the menu for one night only. A limbo contest will take place in front of the grandstands at 5:15pm, with a pair of tickets to the races for the adult winner and a trophy and prizes for the winner in the children’s division.

Hawaiian and Fuzzy Friends night comes after the Great American Ice Cream giveaway on July 15. Sponsors including Action Track Photography, the 10K Racing Team, Dana Benning, the 7H Racing Team, the 21DE Racing Team, the 68 Racing Team, Scott & Jolyne Hogan, Patrick Flannagan and Steve & Michelle Bruce helped purchase the ice cream from Peppy's in downtown Vinton. Kids club coordinator Janice Smith and her family helped dish out free strawberry, vanilla, chocolate and Snickers ice cream to fans on what was a very steamy Sunday afternoon.

Other upcoming events include Alzheimer’s Awareness Night on Sunday, August 12. Silent auction items are now being accepted, with all proceeds going to the local Alzheimer’s Association. For more information about Alzheimer’s night email Dan at DEngledow@aol.com.

Gates open every Sunday evening at 4:30pm, with hot laps at 6pm and racing to follow. Adult grandstand admission is $10, kids 6-12 are $4 and 5 and under are free with a paid adult.
