After 10 consecutive Saturdays of racing, Mother Nature finally had her way as heavy rains forced the cancellation of the July 14 racing program at Independence Motor Speedway. The program was scheduled to be Independence Area Chamber of Commerce Night. For those who bought tickets in advance specifically for Saturday’s Chamber of Commerce race, details concerning the rescheduling of the event will be made available at www.independencemotorspeedway.com in the near future. Prior to Saturday’s rainout, the last cancellation came on opening night, April 28. The 10 race streak of successful Saturday programs was tied for the 11th longest single stretch in track history. It was the sixth 10-week streak and the longest since the final 11 shows were successfully completed to end the 2003 season. This season marked the fifth time in track history that rain forced the cancellation of a July program after the months of May and June both went rain-free. It was the first-ever rainout for a weekly race scheduled at the track on July 14. Up next at the speedway is the 2012 Buchanan County Fair, which runs from July 18-21. Grandstand action begins on Wednesday, July 18, with a special Trailer Race event, followed by the annual Demolition Derby on Thursday. The NTPA Truck and Tractor Pull takes center stage on Friday, before weekly racing resumes on Saturday for the sixth annual Dick Frye Memorial. All six weekly divisions will be competing for track points during the Saturday fair races. For more information on all Buchanan County Fair activities, visit www.buchanancountyfair.org.
