The Vinton-Shellsburg Viking track team members put in their "best effort" of the year, said Coach Aric Chvala. But it was not quite enough to extend their meet win streak to five. The Vikings finished second to Solon at Solon on Tuesday evening. Solon had 135 team points to 116 for VS.
Viking winners included:
Kelyn Rickels, high jump
Wyatt Lyons, 1600M
Nolan Sagan, 800 M (Lyons was second)

"This was without question our best effort of the year, it just wasn't quite good enough to win the team race," said Chvala. "Our team has two meets this week and the challenge is to have 20 personal records this week; we got 17 of them in the first meet. I know that the guys were disappointed with not winning but when you have that many things run faster than they ever have before it is tough to hang your head. Looking forward we know that we have to continue to improve to get the things accomplished that we want to, and I am confident that we will do just that."
